How to remove “AI info” from Instagram posts and stories
You edited a real photo or Reel, posted it, and Instagram tagged it AI info. Here’s what that label means, why it lands on real photos and videos, and how to remove AI info from your Instagram posts, stories and Reels for good.

What does AI info mean on Instagram?
AI info is the label Instagram adds to posts it identifies as created or edited with AI. Meta launched it in 2024 as “Made with AI” and renamed it “AI info” a few months later, after photographers complained that lightly retouched photos were being labelled as if they were fully generated. The same label appears on Facebook and Threads, because all three use Meta’s system.
On a post it shows as a small AI info tag, under your username or in the post’s menu. Anyone who taps it sees a note that the content may have been made or edited with AI tools. For creators, photographers and brands that’s a problem: people read “AI” and assume the photo is fake.
Why does my Instagram post say AI info?
Instagram doesn’t look at your photo or video and guess. When you upload, it reads the metadata: the hidden information stored inside the file alongside the pixels. If the file carries an industry-standard AI marker, the post gets AI info. Two markers do almost all of it:
- Content Credentials (C2PA). A signed record that editing apps attach, listing the tools and AI features used on the file.
- IPTC “digital source type”. A single tag with values like
compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMediaortrainedAlgorithmicMedia, which means an AI model touched the image.

How to remove AI info from an Instagram story, Reels and carousels
Stories
Delete the story, clean the original photo or video, and share the clean copy. Stories use the same labels as posts, so the same fix works.
Reels and videos

How to turn off AI info on Instagram before you post

AI info vs turning off Meta AI on Instagram
“Turn off AI info on Instagram” can mean one of two different things:
The AI info label on your posts
This comes from your file’s metadata or from the AI label toggle. Clean your files with MetaClean before posting and leave the toggle off, and your posts go up without it.
Meta AI using your posts
This is a privacy setting about Meta’s AI features. In Instagram, open your profile menu and look for the settings that control how Meta can reuse your content (listed under sharing and reuse), and switch them off for posts and Reels.
